Advisory Services Overview

Where Cultural Intelligence Meets Capital Strategy

Markets don’t move on spreadsheets alone. They move on stories, cultural assumptions, and the capacity to see patterns before they become obvious.

I help international investors, family enterprises, and cross-border founders navigate the cultural, strategic, and governance dynamics that determine outcomes when complexity crosses borders.

01

The Invisible Architecture of Value

Traditional analysis captures what’s measurable. Cultural intelligence reveals what actually determines success.

Whether partnerships will hold. Whether founders can execute across borders. Whether succession will preserve or quietly erode legacy. After fifteen years mapping Japanese institutional logic, deploying capital with multiple exits, and serving on boards through transitions, I’ve learned that the most expensive mistakes hide in the space between
what’s said and what’s understood.

My advisory work focuses on those spaces: where conventional due diligence reaches its limits and pattern recognition becomes the decisive factor. I work at the intersection of three domains: investment intelligence, family governance, and strategic foresight bringing a single interpretive lens to different kinds of complex decisions.

While my deepest expertise lies in the Europe–Asia corridor, particularly Japan, the same cultural intelligence framework applies to any complex cross-border situation: US–Europe tech transfers, UK–Middle East family offices, or Latin American expansions into Europe.

02

One Lens. Three Worlds.

This isn’t range, it’s depth.

When you spend years studying how different cultures encode decision-making, you develop a lens. That lens works whether you are reading a term sheet, a family constitution, or weak signals in market data. The pattern is what matters, not the surface.

Think of it like musical training. A classically trained musician doesn’t “manage” playing different pieces (Bach, Chopin, Pärt). The repertoire changes, but the literacy remains constant: structure, harmony, timing, and tension.

My repertoire:
– Capital crossing cultures becomes visible through Investment Intelligence Advisory
– Legacy crossing generations becomes navigable through Family Lead Advisory
– The present crossing into future becomes legible through Strategic Foresight

Each service line reveals a different facet of the same underlying skill: reading what happens when different systems of meaning meet, clash, merge, or transform.

Three Lenses for Complex Decisions

Investment Intelligence Advisory

Reading the unwritten rules of cross-border deals.

Every culture has a different grammar for trust, decision-making, and value creation.
When European logic meets Asian institutional structures, when founders translate vision across markets,
when partnerships must bridge different worlds: cultural intelligence determines whether capital creates
or destroys value.

I map the invisible architectures that make deals work: which narratives are performative versus grounded, and where integration risks hide long before they appear in numbers. Reading institutional context, European and Asian, is part of that work, built over fifteen years navigating both systems directly.

Family Lead Advisory

Orchestrating continuity across generations and geographies.

Family wealth is more than capital. It is identity, memory, and the delicate balance between
belonging and independence. When succession spans jurisdictions, when governance must honour
both business logic and family dynamics, traditional advisory often fails: it sees documents,
not dynamics.

I work on the unnamed tensions: the unchosen heir, the founder’s grief, the fears of G2 and G3
that rarely make it into board minutes. The work is to transform emotion into language,
language into decision, and conflict into continuity.

Strategic Foresight

Seeing tomorrow through today’s fragments.

The future announces itself in patterns, not predictions. I detect the narrative ruptures that signal structural shifts 18–24 months ahead: the window where positioning creates asymmetric outcomes.

Using IFTF-certified foresight methods and pattern recognition built across finance, cinema, and competitive shogi, I help organizations distinguish signal from noise and design portfolios, strategies, and governance that remain coherent under uncertainty.

Who I Work With

This work is not for everyone. It is for teams and families operating where conventional analysis stops working, and cultural intelligence becomes a competitive advantage.

Typical engagement: €15K–50K projects · €5K–10K/month retainers · Board fees per market standards

Early-Stage VC & PE Funds

€20–100M AUM funds with portfolio companies navigating cross-border expansion, international partnerships, or cultural complexity in deal structuring.

Typical challenge: “Our portfolio company is negotiating with an international strategic investor, but we don’t fully understand their institutional decision-making process or the cultural expectations that will determine deal success.”

How I help: cultural due diligence on partnerships, board-level advisory for international expansion, relationship facilitation across different institutional systems, and market entry strategy that accounts for invisible hierarchies.

Family Businesses & Family Offices

Multi-generational enterprises and family offices coordinating wealth governance with international business activities and succession across geographies.

Typical challenge: “G2 lives in Milan, G3 in Singapore and London. We are exploring international expansion, but succession planning and governance need to work across jurisdictions and cultures.”

How I help: Family Lead Advisory coordinating succession and governance frameworks, integration of legal/tax/wealth advisors, and designing structures that make room for both continuity and innovation, particularly along the Europe–Asia corridor.

Search Funds & Independent Sponsors

Entrepreneurs acquiring SMEs with international customers, partners, or supply chains where cultural understanding is central to post-acquisition integration.

Typical challenge: “The target generates 40% of revenue abroad with key supplier relationships across borders. Financials look solid, but we don’t know whether these relationships will survive ownership transition and cultural change.”

How I help: cultural due diligence on customer and supplier relationships, integration strategy that respects existing informal architectures, and board advisory through the transition period.

International Institutional Investors

Corporate VCs, pension funds, and institutional LPs seeking European tech exposure while requiring cultural translation of governance standards and ecosystem dynamics with particular expertise in Japanese institutional capital.

Typical challenge: “We want to invest in European early-stage tech, but evaluation criteria and governance expectations differ significantly from our home market.
We need someone who understands both systems.”

How I help: European market intelligence, relationship facilitation with GPs, cultural translation of governance frameworks, and institutional relations that bridge different expectations and decision processes.

Beyond Japan: The same cultural intelligence methodology works for US institutional capital entering Europe, Middle Eastern family offices, and emerging market investors anywhere institutional logics need translation.

I typically do not work with mega-funds (> €500M AUM) with dedicated Asia teams, late-stage buyouts outside my sector expertise, or assignments focused solely on financial modelling without a strategic cultural dimension.

Advisory Engagement Process

Most engagements begin with a focused scoping conversation, then evolve into structured project work, retainer advisory, or board roles, depending on what the situation requires.

01

Initial Conversation

A 30-minute conversation to understand your context, stakeholders, timeline, and what is truly at stake beyond the stated problem.

02

Scoping & Proposal

Within approximately one week, I define the engagement scope, deliverables, cadence, fees, and key decision points for both sides.

03

Execution

Timelines vary according to the engagement: cultural due diligence typically requires 2–4 weeks, family governance projects 2–3 months, while foresight workshops combine preparation with intensive working sessions. Throughout the engagement, regular check-ins and written synthesis keep decisions moving forward.

04

Implementation Support

Ongoing support during implementation, negotiation, or transition, ensuring that recommendations become lasting decisions rather than static reports.

Most new relationships begin with a Cultural Due Diligence Assessment or a Quarterly Signals Brief. These focused engagements demonstrate value and fit before larger commitments.

The Conversation Starts With Questions

Every situation has its own complexity. The frameworks I use provide the lens; each engagement requires its own focus. Often the first step is simply to name the pattern that everyone feels but no one has fully articulated.

“What cultural compromise will you make, and which will you never make?”

Their hesitation reveals whether they’ve truly imagined the journey ahead.

“Who in your organization sees what others miss?”

The answer, and who gives it, maps the real intelligence network, not the org chart.

“If a local competitor launched your identical idea tomorrow, what would remain yours?”

This surfaces whether they’re exporting a model or building a bridge.
